The What If Guy by Lauren Blakely

The What If Guy is the latest in Lauren Blakely's RomCom repertoire and is possibly her sexiest one yet. After the meet-cute, all meet-cutes aspire to be, and reconnection like no other, Brynn and Logan discover that Logan is in fact, Brynn's new boss. Queue the shock and horror. They do their absolute best to keep things strictly on a professional level but who are we kidding here? The chemistry was off. the. charts. There was no way these two could keep the sexy things out of the relationship! Le sigh.

I lovvvvve single parent romances and Logan is probably one of the sexiest single dads around. I loved his relationship with his daughter - it was so sweet! He’s never been given the opportunity to express himself fully in a sexual sense and he’s delighted to discover that Brynn and he are two peas in a pod. Brynn herself has never had the freedom to just let go and vocalize her needs and she thrives in that regard with Logan.

These two characters really set the pages alight with the heat factor but I would have loved a little more heart. Both Logan and Brynn were extremely likeable characters and I’m looking forward to more glimpses of them going forward. While I loved the main characters and the story itself, the cats really stole the show for me. Lauren Blakely writes brilliantly from *any* point of view - be it human or otherwise!

*I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.

Am I The Only One by E.K. Blair

REVIEWED BY
Becky Cox

EK Blair has written a delightfully twisty and suspenseful story. Somewhere in every chapter, you doubt what you thought was happening the chapter before. I truly enjoyed Am I The Only One.

The characters are well developed and have depth. They felt real to me which is the epitome of an excellently written book. I am limiting my discussion of the story itself, as I feel going in blind is the best way to read this story.

If you enjoy thrillers, romance, and anything a bit twisty you will love this book.

Engagement and Espionage by Penny Reid

Engagement and Espionage (Solving for Pie: Cletus and Jenn Mysteries Series, #1)Engagement and Espionage by Penny Reid
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If you have read The Winston Brothers, you will be very familiar with Cletus and his Jenn. Their book is third in that series and is called Beard Science. If you haven't read the previous series, what's wrong with you?!! There are a whole bunch of amazing brothers you will absolutely love! This new series is set in the same town of Green Valley and comes after book four of the original, and you will appreciate Cletus and Jenn's dynamics more, and their families, if you read The Winston's as well. What I loved about this first book was not only the mystery but we get so much more of Jenn and Cletus and their budding relationship. Cletus has a very secretive side that aids him in his shenanigans, though a softer side is revealed from him that heightens his devotion to his Jenn. Add in that the rest of the Winston Clan - minus Jethro and his bride, as they are still on their honeymoon - who make appearances throughout the book, and I was over the moon. I felt like I was visiting old friends and didn't want to leave them.

Cletus is a clever man, others think he is a simpleton, but that only causes them to monologue which makes Cletus wiser than his opponents. And Jenn is learning his ways, and this helps them be a collaborative team in solving who killed Mr Badcock's chickens and causing problems for Jenn's Bakery. Things don't add up as to why Jenn's suppliers are closing up and not selling to her anymore. I love the way Cletus thinks and how he gets revenge on his adversaries and even his siblings. Especially the one he pulled off with Shelly's help - hilarious! And his brothers are none the wiser! As is Cletus’s way.

If I didn't make it clear enough, I not only loved the original series, but I am falling in love all over again with Cletus, Jenn and the rest of the Winston's in this new spin-off. To me, it was more about the couple with a mystery astutely written to give us an entertaining and witty story.
