Bastard Bachelor Society by Sara Ney

Bastard Bachelor Society (The Bachelors Club #1)Bastard Bachelor Society by Sara Ney
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

3.5 Stars.

Abbott and Brooks are the first couple in this new series by Sara Ney. Abbott is from New York old money with a close family and Brooks grew up struggling but makes good for himself. This part was refreshing as it is normally the hero that has all the money and power. They meet in the lobby of their apartment block and find out they are neighbours on the same floor. They form a friendship and start to spend a lot of time together.

This book is centered mainly on these two, but there are some fun secondary characters too. One being Abbott’s nan, who is a determined matchmaker but brings gifts to soften the blow. Abbott has a cat that may or may not like her, who knows as it’s a cat! Brooks has two best friends whom he starts a gentleman’s club (society) with and wagers a bet who can stay single the longest. Even though Brooks had been hurt from a previous relationship that got him to this stage, the fact they created the society was a very douchey thing to do and the three of them came out looking bad.

The storyline was a little fast and somewhat forced to begin with, but I settled in and started to connect with the characters. Brooks wasn’t a douchbag really and they way he wanted to be apart of Abbott’s world was sweet. Most of the book takes place at either Abbott or Brook’s apartment and I would have like to see them venture out more. I felt there wasn’t anything new or surprising happen within the storyline and I was hoping for something more. Did I enjoy the book, for sure. There were some funny parts and even a little angst. Will I try the next book in the series, most likely as I’m hoping she can make these other two friends more lovable.

Heartland by Sarina Bowen

Heartland (True North, #7)Heartland by Sarina Bowen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Heartland by Sarina Bowen

Heartland is Dylan Shipley’s book and while I wasn’t his hugest fan at the beginning, Dylan definitely grew on me more and more as the book progressed.

Dylan and Chastity have been good friends for a handful of years now and Chastity has always been a little in love with Dylan and Dylan has merely been in lust with pretty much any girl worth a second glance and who is most definitely not Chastity. This goes on with Dylan dating Chastity’s roommate and remaining oblivious to her feelings. When Dylan and Chastity start up a business making and selling caramels, Chastity really seems to grow some confidence and learns to assert herself and ask for what she wants which was wonderful!

I loved so much about this book but what I particularly loved was that I didn’t love Dylan at the beginning yet was firmly team Dylan at the end. Him recognizing his feelings for what they were and also expressing himself and his vulnerabilities to Chastity as well as members of his family truly endeared him to me and I felt like he had come so far and grown so much. Chastity I just adored. She had been through so much and could have gone down a different path but she was all things good and it was a goddamn delight to witness. I loved the progression of their relationship and the nature of their friendship.

This was such a welcome addition to the True North series and I’m so eager for the next book!

*I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.

Over the Top (Winter Games, #5)Over the Top by Rebecca Sharp
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Jac and Kyle grabbed me from the very beginning, and I could not put it down until I finished the book! He thought he was the nice guy never to get his princess! She was the Ice Princess who never thought she was destined for a Prince!

She is convinced she is so damaged and only destined for the mountains where she is the Queen of the slops until she meets Kyle. She expected a brief encounter after meeting him in a bar! But destiny was set for them to meet again and again!

He knows from the first night that she’s worth everything and she is his future! So he sets out to prove to Jac that he can be her everything without sacrificing herself and her career. He proves time and time again that he is genuinely a nice guy who has fallen in love with her. In a very short period of time, he becomes very important to her!

He’s got her back and he proves that in the end with her race and clears her name.

Absolutely love this series and so will you, it does not disappoint and nor does Rebecca!!! This is a must-read story and series.

I read this book as an ARC for Joandisalovebooks and have given my honest opinion and views.

Exposed by Willow Aster

Exposed (Kingdoms of Sin, #2)Exposed by Willow Aster
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"It's been a love tested by time, forged by fire, and found to be more perfect than the purest gold."

Not going to lie, Mara frustrated me to no end in Downfall, which I highly suggest reading before jumping in to Exposed. She is spoiled, manipulative and mean. I went into this book expecting to still hate her. Seeing things through her eyes explained her behavior to an extent. I still don't agree with some of the things she did, but she wouldn't be Mara if she didn't.

Elias was spinning out of control and I didn't know how things would go for him but the author worked it out and brought things together. Both characters grew and matured.

This is a great series so far and I look forward to more in the Kingdoms of Sin.

Hold Me in the Dark by Helena Newbury

Hold Me in the DarkHold Me in the Dark by Helena Newbury
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The best way to start 2020 reading Challenge was with this high-octane romantic suspense from the one and only, Helena Newbury.
This book was very special. It was a bit different from what we are used to expect from Helena. Now, this was not a bad thing, on the contrary, I found myself getting sucked into the story from the get-go and I did not want to stop reading until I got my perfect ending.
After a horrific accident in which Yolanda lost more than her ability to walk, she has dedicated her life to help track criminals by hacking and using her incredible mathematical skills. So far she has found a way to cope with her disability by alienating herself from everyone.
Sam Calahan, an FBI agent, is in desperate need of a genius to help him decipher a message in his latest murder case, all he needed was to find the contact, get the information and move on, however, meeting Yolanda totally shifts his world of his axis and he just can't seem to get her off his mind.

Together, Yolanda and Sam suddenly find themselves in the middle of one of the most gruesome murder cases, Sam knows he needs Yolanda to help him, nobody has her mathematical brain but being close to her also means spending more time together and letting someone into his life. For Yolanda the case becomes something of an obsession but it also means putting herself back into society, showing her vulnerability to the rest of the world and realizing how desperately she would like to turn back the time and be complete again.

The story is explosive. There is not one dull moment. Helena has the reader second-guessing where the plot is heading to and to be honest I had no idea the twist we were going to encounter at the very end.
This book played out in my mind like a blockbuster movie. It had suspense, romance, plenty of steamy moments and both characters are cleverly written, so well researched! I was totally blown away.

I cannot express my gratitude to Helena for allowing me to receive an advance copy of this book.
She is my go-to author when I'm looking for something current, intelligent, explosive and fast-paced. Hold Me in the Dark did not disappoint.
