Fire by Hilary Storm

REVIEWED BY Becky Cox

FIRE (Elite Forces, #2)FIRE by Hilary Storm
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hilary Storm

FIRE

You must read ICE before reading FIRE.

Holy Hannah! FIRE picks up right where ICE left off, and I don't want to spoil the story so I won't tell you where that is, but lordy Kaleb. Rough times for my main man.

Jade is just as badass as she was in ICE, but she has a squishy center now named Kaleb. There are some serious obstacles for my ass kicking couple. A few scenes are difficult to read but are integral to the story. I wanted to cover my eyes a couple times and look away. I couldn't stop turning pages.

Some amazing twist that Hilary completely through me for a loop. She has done an excellent job weaving this story. Amongst all the military awesomeness there is still plenty of sexy time with Mr. McHotness Kaleb.

A great read!

Cozzi Cove: Moving Forward
Joe Cosentino

Cal has a whole new set of vacationers in Moving Forward and a new set of problems with his lover.

With a new set of guest we have all new issues to be resolved. Some are lighthearted and funny, while others dig deeper. I did love the characters more in Bouncing Back; Moving Forward has a completely different feel for me.

Gil was deep and I was so proud of his decisions in the end. Hunter I just plain didn't get. Cal (still my fav) dealt with several issues with a surprise twist. Raul was just adorable.

Cal watched a formation of seagulls soar through the cerulean sky. 'This place is perfect.'
'Just like you and me together.'"

Cozzi Cove is a special place where magic happens and the guest find love, sometimes in the most surprising places.

Perfect: Book 4 by N.M. Catalano

REVIEWED BY Ann Meemken

Perfect: Book 4 (Evolution/Stranger)Perfect: Book 4 by N.M. Catalano
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am in total awe of NM Catalano's writing. It is phenomenal! I could not wait for the release of "PERFECT"! I fell for Brian in "Kink" and could not wait to read his story.
Brian is a hot-blooded male that has the ladies swooning after him and wanting to be with him. He has been satisfied with it until now. He feels that his life is missing something. A few of his friends are settling down and he wants to find his soul mate. Brian meets Brooke and sparks fly. Brooke is a marine biologist, that has both beauty and brains. She knows Brian's type, so she is on guard. Brian never backs down and his sights are set on making Brooke his.
This story is incrediable. It is beautifully written and has some twists and turns that keep you turning the pages. There is one hell of an ending. Make sure to keep those tissues handy because you're gonna need them. I highly recommend this story. It is a "must read". I am anxiously awaiting the next book of this series.

The Manny by Susan Ward

REVIEWED BY Isa Jones

The Manny (Locked & Loaded, #1)The Manny by Susan Ward
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh the mother of all cliffhangers!!!

This book was gripping from the get go. It was highly entertaining and wonderfully written.

Graham has lived his life without any attachments and so far that has worked well. His job makes it hard to totally commit to one person which has never bothered him before. He suddenly finds himself single and unemployed and this puts things into perspective making Graham restless and with a sense of loneliness and foreboding he hasn't felt before.

A chance encounter with a gorgeous man brings Graham out of his funk and into the arms of Leland; the complete opposite of Graham, "Lee" has had the love of a husband and a daughter, but has also experience loss and betrayal.

Things suddenly aren't so serendipitous and both men will have a common goal. Leland seems to be able to express his feelings better than Graham who struggles with Trust and control and has to decide if going for what he craves is truly the path to happiness.

I was hooked from the very first page. There are so many unresolved things which I'm dying to get the answer to in the next instalment. Filled with twists, turns and plenty of MM steamy moments are what make this book a MUST READ!!

Ladies Man by Katy Evans

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

Ladies Man (Manwhore, #3)Ladies Man by Katy Evans
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4.5 stars of Viking blueness

If you've strayed into Manwhore territory then Tahoe Roth is a name familiar to you, a rather larger than life playboy. I've read books before where the lead is a playboy, but Tahoe 'T-Rex' is not diluted in his behaviour so as to be palatable. This man is a cad, a rogue and yet despite finding his ways a little too much, I liked him, I found his description desirable and I wanted him for Gina. Tahoe has some good qualities. He is a good friend, he cares, he'll step up when needed.

Gina, one of the friendship trifecta of the Manwhore books comes to life in this book. She's so very real in her boring, run-of-the-mill life. I liked her but she frustrated me in her attempts to avoid her real feelings. Talking of frustration, the chemistry, the sexual tension had me on the edge. He wanted, she wanted, I wanted.

"Frustration is eating at me. I want to grab his wet hair and kiss him. I want to pull him underwater and kiss him. I want to take him home and kiss him. I want him to take me home and kiss him. And then I want to forget I ever kissed him, and ever wanted him."

There's some lovely goodness and insight into the Saints and I relished the insight into their life journey.

Katy Evans has this ability to create the best of men. She created a number of my top ten and Tahoe has joined the best of them. Her writing flowed as it always does, yet I feel she stepped out of some similarities in terms of the journey with these two and whilst sometimes I wanted more in a moment, I appreciated the difference and freshness this brought. I have never found her work formulaic and her talent is producing consistent quality of characters that are irresistible, both men and women. A wonderful addition to the series.

The Game Plan by Kristen Callihan

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

The Game Plan (Game On, #3)The Game Plan by Kristen Callihan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ethan. Seconds. (His firsts belong to my pal that recommended the book).

I'm revelling in the goodness that is this book. Initially it was the cover that drew me in but the words took over from the first few pages. Ethan 'Dex' was a lead a little different than others. He is described so perfectly in a way that fits the gorgeousness on the cover; big, very big, bearded but a kind and truly gentle man. I have to admit being swept of my feet in a literary sense. Ethan is a patient man and he's been waiting for Fi in many ways. Fi was also a great character, a bit of a spitfire, not desperately committed or consistent but she's a little bowled over by Dex too. These two, their lives, their time together was able to make me 'feel' alongside them.

The story wasn't utterly unique and but told through the eyes of these two characters that had depth, it felt fresh. There were some fun twists and some seriously steamy moments. The writing flowed so that I felt lost in the book.

I have read these out of order, but I am now chasing catching up with book two, hoping it will be as wonderful.

Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

Sweet Filthy Boy (Wild Seasons, #1)Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I've had some good reads lately but this book rises to the top of the pile. It has had me completely rapt. If I have to pin down what works so well about this book, it's pretty much everything: the characters, the setting, the writing, the wit and the chemistry and boy, the steam. Pretty much every box was ticked and I could have read about Ansel and Mia from meeting to their old age!

I fell hook, line and sinker for Ansel. This French man was beyond charming, sexy and a bit of enigma. How he and Mia end up tethered to one another is quite foolish but also sweet. The story moves between Las Vegas, Paris and San Diego, but their time in Paris is just magical. Thing is, Ansel has secrets and Mia likes burying her head in the sand. Mia was just a lovely young woman, finding herself, her future and she was just so genuine. The story was intriguing right through, unusual and mostly unpredictable. I loved all the elements of the storyline.

This was an audiobook and I loved the single POV narration. Sometimes accents can get in the way of enjoyment but the female narrator did an excellent job of Ansel's dialogue. This is a favourite audio of all time now.

I am a big fan already of Christina Lauren and did not expect to favour this book over any of the 'Beautifuls' series, but I do. This is my favourite of their work so far and I'm dying to read more from these friends. The writing flowed perfectly with humour and heartache. As ever, I don't see the change between writers as these two talents authors work together seamlessly. Another hit!

Let's Dance Again by Charlotte Eve

REVIEWED BY Tina Shobe

Let's Dance AgainLet's Dance Again by Charlotte Eve
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Super glad to read the continuation of Dylan and Julia's story.

I was very interested to see if their long distance relationship actually lasted as most of them don't. You don't get much more long distance than overseas. As the story goes along Julia is getting the long distance doubts.

Bravo to Dylan for not allowing her to give up her dream of dancing.

When Julia tries to end their relationship he does everything in his power to prove they will make it.

Big kudos to Bella for catching onto her Mom and setting her straight. This girl is a riot!

This book just kept getting better as I read along. It got intense with Dylan's Mom, Natalia and her crazy boyfriend. While reading this book I laughed, I cried and I cheered.

It's too easy to give spoilers...just will say you absolutely must read this book! It's awesome! Also right now (date posted review), book 1, Dance with the Billionaire is 'free'. I'd start with that one so you get the full scope of Dylan and Julia's story.

Kissed by Reality by Carrie Aarons

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

Kissed by RealityKissed by Reality by Carrie Aarons
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

You could say this was an unusual choice of book for me, as I am a reality TV non-fan. However, I have read and loved a book by Carrie Aarons, so that was enough to encourage me to take the dive. The characters were good enough to carry me through the superficial shenanigans of a reality TV matchmaking contest. Ms Aarons cleverly exposes some of the ridiculous elements of the concept and so I found myself absorbed and enjoying the ride of will she, won't he.

This is a story of second chances and a heroine, Leighton, who has seriously hurt the hero, Finn irreparably. Money, fame and feelings bring these two back into each other's paths. Despite transgressions of the past, I really liked Leighton and I believed in her. I thought she was aware of her faults and stupidity but strong and determined. I didn't feel like I got to know Finn quite as well but seemed to use others for his purposes. It took me some time to like him and feel he had integrity.

The story was somewhat predictable in the sheer nature of a reality contest, but there were some good twists that threw me off my stride. This book has confirmed that Carrie Aarons is an author to watch, with talent and writing skills that suggest there is more goodness to come.

The Player and the Pixie by L.H. Cosway

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

The Player and the Pixie (Rugby, #2)The Player and the Pixie by L.H. Cosway
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It is a true challenge to follow up on the excellence that was The Hooker and the Hermit. Book one delivered perfection in the form of humour, romance and heat. The loose formula for book two follows this pattern.

What I was intrigued by was how on earth Reid and Cosway could portray Sean Cassidy as anything but vile and to think of him as likeable seems a stretch at first glance. I know a hero isn't always likeable but some redeeming factors are needed to engage with a lead character in a romance. I am pleased to report that Sean Cassidy did not have a personality change, yet I was able to dig deeper into who Sean was, why he riled Ronan and how Lucy, Ronan's sister could possibly see him as suitable boyfriend/bed-fellow material.

Lucy was true to her rainbow self, bright, intelligent but kind and giving. You just can't resist liking Lucy; she engaged me from page one. There is a storyline running through this book, between Lucy and Sean that is quite brilliant, fresh and funny.

As with Hooker and Hermit, the writing between the two authors is seamless. You cannot tell where one author begins and the other ends. I would say that this book didn't hit quite as many humour buttons as book one, but it had more poignancy in the characters and their situations. It started a little slow for me but quickly picked up pace and I thoroughly enjoyed what these two favourite authors of mine can do when they get together. Keep them coming!

A copy of this book was provided by the authors in return for an honest review.

Dogs Dance by Larion Wills

REVIEWED BY Becky Cox

Dogs DanceDogs Dance by Larion Wills
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Larion Wills
Dogs Dance

Dogs Dance, a wonderful historic western with a bit of romance. It had all the feels and quite a few surprises that gave me a great wow at the end.

Jim Liberty works for Cass on his cattle ranch. He is endeavoring to make a life for himself and start his own ranch, but the obstacles are boundless it seems. The prejudice and hypocrisy of the old west comes out loud and clear.

Anna is a special young lady and most entertaining. She is soft in a world of hard.

Doc Edwards is a endearing character and I enjoyed him every much. He is everything I would picture an historic doctor to be.

Larion Wills' is a wonderful story teller and I was drawn into Dogs Dance from the beginning. I loved that I was surprised with a few twists. I hurt for Jim Liberty, and understood his anger. Anna is such a unique character.

Entertaining read!

E.K. Blair
Hush

The anticipation for Hush was crazy intense. I am invested in these characters.

To say I was a bit taken aback by Hush is an understatement. I am not really sure what EK was after with this book, but my mind didn't follow.

EK's writing is good as always. For me, the characters changed and the ending was just a big WTF! Elizabeth was a completely different person and I really wanted to shake her a few times....hard. Parts of Declan are still there and I loved spending time with him again.

There were a few situations that the way they were resolved just really didn't make sense. In any regard, it is a well written story, just maybe not the story I was anticipating.

Quinn, Part II
J.C. Cliff

You need to read Quinn I before reading Quinn II. I met Quinn in the Blyss series, which I really enjoyed.

This books picks up right where Quinn I left us. Quinn is trying to protect Lexi and their time in woods is well spent doing lots of fun naughty things.

I think they have chosen a path for their relationship when they exit the woods, then things take a turn for the worse. Nothing is at it seems and there are a lot of interesting twist and "aha" moments.

I liked Quinn II and enjoyed the read. I did not connect to it as well as some other JC Cliff books. I can't say if it was me or the book, but it just had a different feel and flow.

I got mad a Quinn a few times, but I still think he is a hot piece of man candy, and really sweet.
Lexi just can't seem to stay out of trouble and I love her strength.

Holding Fast by Jeanine Binder

REVIEWED BY Tina Shobe

Holding Fast (A Love and Order Novel)Holding Fast by Jeanine Binder
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a free ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

Prior to reading this book I didn't realize it was part of the 'A Love and Order Novel' series. It is easily a stand alone book. I haven't ready any of the other books in the series and wasn't lost at all when reading this book.

Eli (Elijah) Walker is a NYPD detective. He meets Ainsley Barnett when she is victim of a crime in her father's deli shop. She's running the shop while her father is recovering from an injury. She is actually a full time writer (love that!). Eli shows he might have a little bit of an anger management issue going on when he hits the punk that is beating Ainsley. Truth is because of his childhood he has a really hard time dealing with men that beat up women.

Eli's job is his life, through his work he has seen/dealt with some very ugly situations. He does not do relationships. He is a player. By the author's description of him he is a seriously 'hot' alpha male.

Ainsley comes into the precinct to say Thank you to Eli and to offer both him and his partner, Leon a free tab for life in the deli. She is blond, shy and beautiful.

There is just something about her that pulls at Eli. He is absolutely captivated. Neither Ainsley or Eli have been in a mixed-race relationship before.

Ainsley has an ex-boyfriend that abused her and she is super cautious. Eli does talk her into going out with him and he can sense he needs to move really slow.

We travel along on Eli/Leon's cases and on Ainsley's book tour. The author does a great job in making you feel like your are right there seeing the story unfold.

Ainsley is being stalked and Eli does everything in his power to protect her but she still gets abducted.

I was so afraid for her and cheered so loudly for her when she was so tough and got herself free and was able to call for help.

Kudos to Eli for being strong for Ainsley and stepping back so everything could go by the book with the investigation.

He curbed his Alpha Male and proved just how much she meant to him.

I was surprised by how much ugliness bi-racial relationships still have to deal with in 2016. Good Job to the author for bringing some attention to this very tough topic.

I was into this book so much that I even cried at a wedding that was going on in the book. I, Seriously was into this book. The story line was great, it was 'real'. I felt it was very, very well written.

If I could rate this book higher than 5 stars I would. It earned it! Great job Jeanine Binder! I'm a new follower of yours.

Locke and Load by Donna Michaels

REVIEWED BY Isa Jones

Locke and Load (Dangerous Curves, #2)Locke and Load by Donna Michaels
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a very good suspenseful book and what I loved was the pace. It was the first book I read from this Author and was thoroughly enjoyable.
When Lt Nicole Locke and Det. Cage Burnett come face to face with each other and their past after his partner's murder, they must work together and put their differences behind them. Craig would like for Nicole to disappear and be as far away as possible, the last thing he wants is to have the woman who broke his heart and left him standing on the altar in such close proximity. However you know what they say "where there was fire, ashes remain" and as the couple work and spend time with each other some secrets and trues begin to come to the light and soon the couple are not only running away from their passion but also running in order to save their lives and solve the crime. Nicole will do everything in her power to protect Craig once again even if that means given her back on the only person she has ever loved, she has done it before and she will do it again in a heartbeat but this time is harder, the feelings that she thought were hidden return tenfold to haunt her so perhaps this time Love will be triumphant.

Great read, it was entertaining, yet sexy and romantic. This is book two but it can be read as a standalone. I will certainly will be reading more from this Author.

Your Captivating Love (The Bennett Family Book 2)Your Captivating Love by Layla Hagen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was the perfect weekend read, where you can curl up and lose yourself in a really good book. I enjoyed this book and the characters even more than book one and I think that's because I engaged with Logan and Nadine more on an emotional level. The lead males in this series so far, are not bad boys, these are men with maturity and integrity but realistic all the same. I have to say I find this a refreshing change, I like a bad boy like most readers but I enjoy diversity.

Logan was just a compelling character, a bit of a fantasy man to be honest. I'd probably conjure him up if I could. He was a charmer with a fun side and a quick tongue.

" I can't own up to believing in true love without my masculinity suffering a downgrade."

Nadine was new to San Fran and through her friend Ava was brought into the Bennett family goodness. I love this family and I'm looking foreword to some of the other Bennetts because they are hugely different in personality.

This was just the perfect beach, easy reading story that felt fulfilling. Whilst this can be read as a standalone, they are better enjoyed in order, so that you can follow the side characters and their stories. I am particularly looking forward to more about Pippa and some of the twins.

Tharros by C. Kennedy

REVIEWED BY Joanne Swinney

ThárrosThárros by C. Kennedy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 tryferós stars

FULL: This is my mind right now, full, packed with thoughts about this book. C. Kennedy certainly knows how to pull out every emotion you may ever possibly feel, sadness, anger, disgust, happiness, surprise and love. I have taken quite a dramatic journey while reading this story. The one thing that stands out above all the rest is courage.

I had to read, no not had, I needed to read this book after reading book one, Omorphi. It's the kind of story that warms your heart but at the same time it feels like it's being ripped out. Book one is not left on any sort of cliffhanger but you will want to read more. I just finished this story last night and I am already eagerly awaiting book three.

Christy is a young man who has suffered greatly, I mean he has literally been tortured, both sexually and physically for many years. After reading so many of the extremely horrifying acts of abuse that Christy had endured is just..... well it is hard to grasp how he still functions everyday. I could see the struggles he was trying to overcome, each scene playing over in my mind while reading. I realise this is no easy feat but the talent of this writer is phenomenal.

Fear is Christy's biggest nightmare. He wants to feel safe, to no that he will never have to feel such pain again. It is heart breaking to hear such things but boy is he brave. Tharros in Greek means courage, strength. Christy has great courage, many times he may not think so but for what he has been through and now trying to achieve is just remarkable.

If you have read book one you will know that, Michael is a beautiful young man inside and out. He has a heart the size of the ocean, understanding beyond his years, the patience of a saint. He is unequivocally the most extraordinary young man I have ever come across. His life was all mapped out, finish senior year, get through the USATF tryouts, go to Oxford and although this is still the plan, it's becoming much harder to achieve. Michael's life has become dangerous, he is faced with danger at every turn. He will protect Christy with his life, he could never just stand by and watch. People say sometimes love can make us do stupid things, well I tend to agree but if it wasn't for Michael's love for Christy, I also believe there would no longer be a story because Christy would be no more.

Just when you think life is going to be okay for these young men and their friends, there is another shock or surprise in store. Sometimes I found myself holding my breath and thinking OMG!! how much more can these boys go through. You know what got them this far besides great courage? Friendship and love. The friendships that have been formed since the start of book one is amazing. A group like no other, looking out for each other, helping when they can but must of all the support.

Although there can be great sadness at times while reading, the laugh out loud moments I have had was just what I needed. Christy is becoming very humorous. Sometimes he has that cheeky smile where he knows he is being funny, other times when others are cracking up with laughter around him, I think he is unaware that what he said was actually hilarious. The interview scene took me over the edge, I could not breathe for laughing. Honestly you must read this book. If I was talking to Christy right now his response would be 'I will do this'.

If I had to sum up this whole story into one word it would be magnificent. I highly recommend reading the Elpida series. Starting with book one Omorphi.

When Nothing Is All You've Got

Rating 4.5

Wow. A brilliant story expertly told. Dystopia at its finest. A bad-a** heroine that I didn't know whether to hug her or run from her. Nada has had a horrible life. When the world went to crap and the new government took over, the criminals were banished to live in the Underworld. She was born there and has never known anything else but abuse, hate and filth. Her father is the king of the Underworld and you would think that would give her princess status, but far from it. The king is a nasty piece of work. Him...I want to choke or stab or shoot.

Nada is a brilliant character and I was so absorbed in her story I couldn't turn pages fast enough.

Shadow was born above ground where no crime, no matter small, is tolerated. He was sent to the Underworld, ripped from his life. He is bitter and brutal. He became the King's soldier in the Underworld. He had believed ever horrible thing told to him by the King about Nada until he was ordered to follow her and saw a completely different person.

When Nothing is All You've Got hit all the feels. I wanted to yell in frustration, shed a tear at the tender moments and cringe at the violent ones. The passion between Shadow and Nada was off the charts and the ending could not have been more perfect.

Great read!
