Hard Hitter by Sarina Bowen
Patrick O'Doul's book and what a book it was! Doulie is the team captain and enforcer for the Brooklyn Bruisers. He's extremely reserved in that he likes his own space and place and aside from mingling with his teammates, he's very much a loner who prefers to keep to himself rather than let other people in. Given his position as enforcer, he obviously gets into many fights on the ice and is required to see the team masseuse slash yoga instructor, Ari for some therapy. Ari is a freaking delight! She knows Patrick doesn't like being touched and just helps him in the best way she can. She's an incredibly warm and generous person and given her recent past relationship, she's understandably hesitant to start something new with Patrick.
Both of these characters have a past that they're dealing with the only way they know how and watching them come together was really enjoyable. They had some rocky moments and the ending was all the more satisfying for it. I loved Ari's patience with Patrick and unexpectedly, Patrick's patience with Ari. I love reading Bowen's sports romances because they always seem so authentic and true to the sport and Hard Hitter fits that to a tee. This book was thoroughly enjoyable and I'm looking forward to the next book of the series.
