Love Unexpected by J.C. Santo

REVIEWED BY Tina Shobe

Love Unexpected (Navy Love Series #2)Love Unexpected by J.C. Santo
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book 2 in the Navy Love Series.

Tegan Daniels joined the group of close friends in the first book. She is Tessa Daniels sister and comes to live with her in the first book. She is a hopeless romantic.

Charles Reed is a friend/fellow Navy officer of Tessa's. He initially comes across as a 'love them, leave them' type. He has no interest in a real relationship.

Reed and Tegan hook up and from them you can see the fight Reed is fighting to not open himself up. He just can't stay away from Tegan. Poor Tegan her poor heart is getting trampled on.

Their friend, Marshall has a talk with Reed that makes him relook at his life and resolve some things in his past so he can have a future. His foster Mom is an amazing woman.

I loved re-visiting with all the group from the first book. It made it seem like this book was a continuation of the first book and I have fallen in love with all of them from the beginning. I can't wait for book 3 so I can catch up with everyone's lives.

This book is very well written and flowed from beginning to end. I couldn't get much else done because I didn't want to put this book down.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was given a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.

Maggie Campbell lost her Mom in a drowning accident when she was 12. The only love she was shown after that was by her Grandmother. Her father turning into an uncaring person.

She moved away as soon as possible to escape those memories. She feels she has her life set until she receives a letter from her sister asking her to come home to celebrate their grandmother's 90th birthday. She can't say no.

Upon returning home she discovers their neighbor, Desmond Kinsley deeply involved with her family. She is immediately suspicious. She later learns that her family's property are under control of Desmond and she becomes more determined to dislike him.

Poor Maggie seems to be a bit accident prone and every time Desmond seems to be there to pick her back up.

I loved their exchanges and I love the way we are pulled into Maggie's life with her sister's family and her Grandmother.

Maggie and Desmond become more involved when he helps the family out with the care of her Grandmother. She opens herself up to see the true Desmond and Desmond in turn realizes the impression of Maggie is not correct.

I really enjoyed reading this book and getting to know the characters. Very well written.

Delaney is ordinary college student and has a normal life. She has been feeling that someone is always watching her and looking after her. She has some strange dreams and feels there is something wrong with her or like there is a piece of her that is missing. Malik is her protector and watches over her. He has known a great love with her but had to let her go, to protect her. He wants nothing more for her to remember her past and come back to him. There is some challenges in the way. They will have to conquer the war that rages against them. Will they conquer it and find there way back together again?

This is the first book I have read by Suki Sather. The story is amazing. I loved how Suki described the scenes in vivid detail. It makes you feel like you are there. I enjoyed this action packed book. It had you at the edge of your seat and the ending was perfect. I will be reading more from Suki in the future.

Hunted Friends by Peter Ostermon

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Hunted Friends
Peter Ostermon

Aisha is a middle eastern girl that was separated from her best friend Ruth when they were young and Ruth's family relocated to the United States. The girls reconnect and Ruth makes the trip back to visit her friend Aisha.

There are some political issues and subterfuge that the girls get dragged into making for some exciting scenes.

While Hunted Friends had a good plot line and story to be told, I struggled with this one. The content of the story is definitely adult as there is extreme violence coupled with sexual content; the writing style is inclined to YA readers. The plot moved very quickly and at times so much so that it was completely unrealistic. Aisha and Ruth's extreme reactions to situations was very juvenile. Ruth's rapid incorporation into the middle eastern lifestyle was so over the top.

One Little Wish: a romantic suspense novel by Gina LaManna

REVIEWED BY Monique Cashmere

One Little Wish: a romantic suspense novel (The Little Things Mystery Series Book 1)One Little Wish: a romantic suspense novel by Gina LaManna
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If you haven't picked up a Gina LaManna book yet, this one is perfect to start on. She is going to become your go to author when you need a great book to settle down with.

This is the first book, in what I feel is going to be an awesome series. I loved all the characters, especially our heroine Scarlett. She is from a small town, with big opinions. She has been living there all her life. And she has one little wish, that she hopes will come true at some point. Of course there is a sassy BFF with Noelle and a gorgeous ex boyfriend Mack, that comes back to town for Reunion Day. And what a reunion these two would have! There is plenty happening in this book to keep you guessing and hoping and laughing. One of my favourite things was the idea of a book shop with more. And when I say more, I mean a licensed bar and part library and in the very back room, all the more discrete editions and fanfare. I wish I had thought of this marvellous idea, or even had the money to open a franchise with a clever book buddy.

I am so looking forward to the next book in this series. Don't be worried, as this one can be read as a stand alone with no cliff hangers, but once you read it, you'll want to read more just like me.

Vivid by Jessica Wilde

REVIEWED by Micky Barnard

VividVivid by Jessica Wilde
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4.5 stars

The perfect recipe:
10 oz grumpy, injured soldier
6 oz nurse
50 oz sexual tension
A whole load of issues - mix thoroughly and bake for 300 pages or so.

I think you can tell that I enjoyed this book and I lost myself within its pages for just over a day. I have to be honest and say it isn't totally original in terms of concept but there were unique differences that made it undpredictable. Both the characters of Merrick and Grace were well developed and had real depth. They warred, they sizzled, they shared and they were friends.

I was impressed by Jessica Wilde's writing. I hadn't heard of her prior to seeing a couple of friends read the book over Christmas but I am glad I did. Both the cover and the title fit the book so perfectly. There is talent between the pages of this book and I'm off to recommend it to some of my book friends.

Inevitable Love by J.C. Santo

REVIEWED BY Tina Shobe

Inevitable Love (Navy Love Series #1)Inevitable Love by J.C. Santo
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hunter Stevenson is the exact opposite of Tessa. He is raising his 4 year old daughter, Sawyer on his own and moves to be closer to his dad and his brother, Marshall. Marshall is Tessa's very best friend.

I really loved the twist that Tessa was the player and Hunter was the 'grounded' one. You normally don't read that in books.

Tessa gets drunk one night and tries to hook up with Hunter. He has no interest in having a casual relationship.

Through out the book Hunter is trying to show Tessa that they are meant for more than casual. Throw in Marshall who has been trying to secretly set these two up for years and Sawyer, who is an absolute doll!

I can't say enough good things about this book. I actually read it straight through because I was sucked into the story and couldn't put it down. I loved all the characters and their exchanges. This is a very well written book. Looking forward to Book 2

Finn Grayson is an expert thief. He is hired for a job to steal a priceless artifact fro an extremely wealthy handsome man in New Shanghai. A place where he knows it is not safe to return but won't turn down the large pay-off for the job.

Cameron Feilong is a wealthy collector of beautiful things, and a dragon. When Finn attempts to steal from him, he has a bit of fun.

Cameron and Finn have a long discussion and discover a bigger plot in the works. They form an alliance to attempt to save the Elemental Shards. Their journey teaches them a lot about themselves and each other.

Laine's fantastical world was interesting and even though I hadn't read previous books in this series I had no problem staying with the story.

Paranormal readers would enjoy this book. There is an m/m relationship.

Maybe Forever by Kim Golden

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

Maybe Forever (Maybe... Book 3)Maybe Forever by Kim Golden
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have enjoyed this series immensely and this book felt like the ideal completion. Maybe Forever has fast-forwarded a bit in the life of Laney and Mads, they're a few years down the line. For me, this has been a real strength of the series, seeing them from their first meeting to a life complicated by real life.

Laney and Mads are experiencing an impasse in their relationship. They're not connecting on a partnership level, physically or emotionally. It's a mess. Young children complicate this situation. Oh, how I could identify with this. Most people in a long term relationship with kids would identify on some level with where Laney was. I felt her pain but I also empathised with Mads. Mads had humility, alongside his stupidity. My love for his character did not wane one bit in this book. I love reading a book with married couples and the fact that I have been able to follow these two through years has been a bonus.

Kim Golden has impressed me with the concept for this series, her writing and execution have been consistently good. I look forward to more from her in the future.

Flawed by Cecilia Ahern

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

Flawed (Flawed, #1)Flawed by Cecelia Ahern
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was the kind of book that built and built and I find that I thoroughly enjoyed it. This was a strong YA dystopian tale with a theme that felt fresh. Celestine is a bit of a 'goody two-shoes', living an entitled existence, far removed from the reviled of her society, the 'Flawed'. The concept of the Flawed was a good one and I didn't see a number of the twists and turns coming. Celestine moves from a place of perfection to being able to see another point of view on societal and political foundations.

"Seize the moment, Celestine, and say it. Give a voice to those who are silenced."

"I don't want to stand out. I want to fit in. I don't want to be a poster girl for anything."

This book was narrated from Celestine's POV and I found the description to be excellent and even brutal at some points, all making for a strong story. This book made me very intrigued by Carrick and I'm a bit sad I didn't get to know more about him, but I can see this will come in the next book.

I have only read Cecelia Ahern in her contemporary/women's fiction but I have to say that this is my favourite of her books that I've read. I think this series holds great promise and I am anticipating the next instalment.

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

Cruel Beauty (Cruel Beauty Universe #1)Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 stars

I would say that I enjoyed 75% of this book but not in linear form. The story, writing and premise were excellent. Unfortunately, there were significant, crucial parts from 70% onwards that lacked clarity. I felt confusion at various junctures. When that happens its like reading through a fog, which is okay for a few pages but feels annoying for longer. However, when all said and done, it made sense in the final pages and I was satisfied in the culmination.

The characters were so very interesting. Nyx has been reared knowing she's expected to make the ultimate sacrifice for her family and her land. Once at her final destination, she meets Ignifex, who I really liked. Shade was an unexpected complication and I found my loyalties compromised. The characters were all a mixture of good and bad and I enjoyed their flaws.

All in all a good re-imagining of Beauty and the Beast with strong writing in the main.

Some Sort of Love by Melanie Harlow

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

Some Sort of Love (Happy Crazy Love, #3)Some Sort of Love by Melanie Harlow
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This has been a consistently good series but Some Sort of Love has been my absolute favourite. I can only put it down to all that is Levi. This man, single parent, bearded, selfless with an autistic boy was the epitome of a hero I could totally admire and desire. He wasn't perfect but his character was endearing, kind and totally gorgeous. Equally I have enjoyed these sisters that the series centres around and Jillian was understandably feeling on the outside of the happy lives her sisters were living. Jillian and Levi's background was an excellent premise for something more. I have to mention Scotty and the parent that Levi was, these two, their tenacity and love were so touchingly poignant. I appreciated this realistic situation brought into the book.

The sexual tension sizzled in the atmosphere when these two were together and they had to make the most of their moments together. When they were together it was infectiously heated. They were the most magnetic couple of the three books.

Whilst this series hasn't been as laugh out loud as the Frenched series, it certainly has its amusing moments but I think the emotions and connections are narrated in a deeper way and I've loved that.

Double Alchemy by Susan MacNicol

REVIEWED BY Joanne Swinney

Double Alchemy (Double Alchemy, #1)Double Alchemy by Susan Mac Nicol
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The wonders of paranormal, they can take you to a place that is far from believable but yet you can very much believe it when engrossed in the story.
This book was all fantasy and I loved it. A world created very much like the one we live in today but with Witchhunters which obviously hunt witches,Warlocks and their Withinner and then there's the Fey's.

Quinn Fairmont a very powerful warlock and very good looking by all accounts, stunning is probably a more accurate word to describe this delicious male dominate. He is a very successful business man, caring for those less fortunate. He his very much respected by those that know him personally and actually even those that don't but it's only a selected few that know the real Quinn. Being a Warlock can be very tiring some days to the point of complete exhaustion and death is always a factor in his daily life when dealing with traitors, Witchhunters, the consortium and let's not forget his Withinner, that is Quinn's other half so to speak, not his partner, it's actually a part of him, another person living inside you is the only way I can describe it best.

Cade Mairston is a normal person, possibly? living his life, although a lonely one but never the less he's made something of himself. He doesn't have any family left, he lives on a houseboat with his feline, Marco Polo. Cade's life is going to change dramatically when he bumps into the gorgeous Quinn. Neither man can stop thinking about the other. It makes for a very interesting and most definitely hot read. Jesus, I could feel the sexual tension through the pages. When Quinn comes a knocking the houseboat will be rocking. LOL!! I'm telling you how that boat never sunk and become a submarine is a mystery.

If you love all things paranormal and a hot M/M Romance then this is the book for you. I would definitely recommend reading. There is a book two to this story which I am definitely going to read. There is no cliffhanger but you are left with lots of unanswered questions. Hearing more about Cade and Quinn can only be a good thing.

The Affair by Giana Darling

REVIEWED BY Lynette Kelly
4.5 Stars

Well what I thought I would hate about this book I totally ended up loving.  This story is about an affair, wrong in so many ways, but the writer has a very cleaver way of making you rethink the wrong.

Elle has packed up her life in France and is taking a well earned break before she goes back to the madness of her family in New York.  A nervous flyer, she comes across the most handsome man she has ever seen, who settles her nerves, and who ends up at the same holiday resort.  Sinclair is powerful, mysterious, handsome and has a partner at home, but Elle cannot get him out of her mind. After meeting again at the resort
Sinclair declares that he wants Elle for a week long affair, in which he struggles and waivers on doing the right thing and giving in to his desires with the gorgeous Elle.  He unleashes something within Elle and the result is some damn hot sex scenes.

The characters have wonderful complexity, Elle has had a troubled past that make her vulnerable, Sinclair is somewhat a mystery.
I would like to have read Sinclair's POV though out the story, maybe that's an idea for another book?  Here's hoping! An excellent read from this author, I am really looking forward to the next instalment.

Dark N' Stormy by Angela Stevens

REVIEWED BY Monique Cashmere

Dark 'N' Stormy (Cocktail Series, #3)Dark 'N' Stormy by Angela Stevens
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is the third book in the Cocktail Series, but my first and by this author. They are all standalones.

In this novel, we have Finn's story. He is one of the flatmates, along with Ash and Lisa, and also a work colleague to London who is Ash's girlfriend. Finn is your typical mid 20's kinda guy, playing the field and having fun not committing to a relationship. That is until he meets Julia Royston when she walks into the Hockey Punk. They end up back at her house that rainy night, drinking Dark 'n' Stormy's to set the mood. Finn falls for her, and it makes him realise that a relationship with Julia is something he wants. But will it last? Is she the woman he thought she was? Finn will need the backup of his flatmates more so than ever.

This book had interesting parts, but fell a bit short for me. I didn't connect with the characters very well and at times was confused who the heroine was. The hero went through quite a bit and even though I felt for his situation, I felt he was a wishy washy and lacking in strength.

All that Jazz by Natasha Boyd

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

All that Jazz (A Butler Cove Novel)All that Jazz by Natasha Boyd
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4.5 stars

The Eversea books have been firm favourites of mine and I was very excited to be returning to Butler Cove. I do get a little nervous about side characters becoming the main show but Jessica 'Jazz' was so damn real and likeable because of her relatability, I needn't have worried. I found myself uninterested in Keri-Ann and Jack Eversea because I just wanted to devour the story of Jazz and Joey.

The timeline of this unfolding story is a real strength, told from just before Jazz's 18th birthday and moving from there onwards, I enjoyed the journey and character growth. I felt the poignancy of the tragedy so hard, equally the heat packed a punch. Natasha Boyd is so good at writing the feels, the emotions are intense and tangible. There was definitely more heat in this Butler Cove book than previous ones and I loved that element. It was also packed full of witty dialogue.

"I don't know what happened just then," he said. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean us to end up arguing." "You opened your hambone mouth, that's what happened."

I found Joey infuriating at times, I wanted to knock him around the head so that he'd see what was before him but his character grew and my favour developed with him.

I remain a huge fan of Natasha Boyd, she has never disappointed me yet. I am impressed that even though this was a continuation of a series, it didn't feel overly familiar or predictable. Her writing is true, grounded in real life but brings that escapism you want from a really good read.

Sweet Dreams, Baby Belle by Kim Carter

REVIEWED BY Kari Cox

Sweet Dreams, Baby BelleSweet Dreams, Baby Belle by Kim Carter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Lizzie thought she was getting the perfect life when she married Grant. She was a small town girl marrying a wealthy doctor who treated her like a princess. Her fairy tale, however, didn't last. Grant becomes cruel and controlling. Lizzie is cut off from her family and friends and locked away in Grant's estate. The more she learns about her new husband the more she realizes he is a very bad man. She escapes her confines and hides away in a secret place. While she's there, she runs across a grave of a little girl that brings a whole new set of adventures to her story.

The book was creative. It provided a lot of mystery and intrigue with the drama of the old ladies, the brother and sister, Grant and Ponzi scheme, the estate's staff, and Baby Belle. You never know what to expect from the next chapter. I liked the old lady's characters. They brought some good humor to the story. I liked Kenny as well. He brought some humor as well and was very sweet to Lizzie. My only complaint with this book would be that there was so much going on it was almost too much to appreciate the individual aspects of the story and it was hard to keep up with the happenings in all the different situations. Overall, it was a very interesting read.

Felony Ever After

I really want to write a proper review but I just can't! This book was ridiculously hilarious (I had to stop reading at one stage because I had the whole nail salon in fits of laughter due to MY outbursts!) and so very unique! I had to just keep on reading because I had absolutely no idea what was going to happen and I simply had to know! NOTHING was what I thought it was going to be and I stopped guessing after a while and enjoyed the ride.

This book was just soooooo much fun and you get the feeling that the authors had a blast writing it! The characters are hilarious, likeable for the most part, and people you could happily have a drink or three with. I loved Verity, Angie, Tattoo, and even Mr Lay who added a certain je ne sais quoi! The book was seriously so well written that it didn't even feel as though there were 13 authors involved in its creation! I haven't read all of these authors previously but I think I'll be adding quite a few to my tbr.

Loved, highly recommended, and I really wish the authors do the same thing for another character (Angie, please!).

Looking At Forever by Ann Lister

REVIEWED BY Joanne Swinney

Looking At Forever (The Rock Gods #4)Looking At Forever by Ann Lister
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I totally did not expect to fall in love with Wheland. In book three 'Make You Mine', I became unsure of him. His motives left a bad taste in my mouth. I know everyone makes mistakes ,it's part of life, live and learn as they say. I think Wheland is definitely learning from his mistakes but the past is exactly that and needs to stay there or can it?

Rooster a blast from Wheland's past enters his life just when he most needs a friend but it's a tough situation because he is very much attracted to Rooster. Wheland has a very dominate nature especially in the bedroom and no one has ever been able to handle him or his demands. Will Wheland ever be able to live a life with someone that embraces his dominate side.

Rooster can't believe what he is doing. He is heading for the biggest heart break of his life and just can't stop himself. Being a natural submissive, he can see Wheland is a true dominate and is craving him in a huge way.

Explosive that is what pops into my head. The chemistry between these two guys is like a bomb waiting to go off. I am like get naked already, LOL!! BDSM is a lifestyle choice, some may experiment with some form of BDSM, others choose to live the lifestyle. Being in a committed relationship and living the BDSM lifestyle is not uncommon.

This story pulled every emotion from me, the unexpected happening and completely took me by surprise. God, I think I even held my breath at one point. I just did not see that happening.

Wheland really is a beautiful man inside and out. He deserves to live his life the way he chooses. He may not have any real family around him but he has his band brothers and as Alex's says 'they are brothers by choice'.

I recommend this book to all lovers of M/M Romance with some elements of BDSM. Another epic story by the very talented Ann Lister. I'm off to read book five. I just can't get enough of these guys.

Consolation by Corinne Michaels

Consolation (The Consolation Duet #1; Salvation #3)Consolation by Corinne Michaels
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love a good military based romance and this certainly ticked that box. Natalie is immersed in the military life, the wife of an ex-SEAL who does equally risky work now. All their friends are military. The story starts with the most difficult news a military wife could receive and this book tracks the next year. It deals with pain, anger, hope and love. There are a number of twists and turns that are completely unexpected and those plot twists kept me fully engaged.

The male narration, although few and far between was excellent, a deep voice capturing the emotion of the character. The female narrator had the odd whiny moment but otherwise delivered well.

I just have to go on and read the next book, otherwise the suspense will kill me.

The Fire Between High & Lo by Brittany C. Cherry

REVIEWED BY Monique Cashmere

The Fire Between High & Lo (Elements, #2)The Fire Between High & Lo by Brittainy C. Cherry
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I never am disappointed with a Brittainy C Cherry book. They have every single thing on my tick list to keep me happy, - romance, angst and humor. Even though I am moving my family to a new state, and have a stack of things to do, I could not put this book down.

Alyssa is a good girl, from the right side of town, working part time before heading off to college. She sees a cute boy outside work, who she knows is from the wrong side of the tracks. They seem so opposite but once they get talking, they realise that they actually are very similar. This leads them to become best friends. But Logan has demons that even Alyssa can not help him with. Logan's brother is his rock. But when Kellan is in need, Logan must battle those demons and come back home, but is it the right decision, because with every High, there are always the Lo's.

This is book number 2 in the Elements series, but it is a complete standalone. This novel is very heart wrenching, honest and moving to say the least. It deals with the subject matter of addictions, in all formats, and does it brilliantly. I would highly recommend this book, or any of this authors for that matter.
