Up in Smoke by T.M. Frazier
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I don’t know if it’s because I am over this genre of book or because Frankie and Smoke just didn’t do it for me, but UP IN SMOKE didn’t knock my socks off like I was hoping it would.
We read about Smoke during Rage’s book and I was looking forward to his story. I wanted to know why he was as messed up as he was, and now that I know, I feel like TM Frazier didn’t build him up like she has her previous male leads. Smoke was probably the weakest link for me in terms of hero’s. If you can even call him that. Thankfully, I did enjoy Frankie and her bad-ass-ness.
I found parts of this book really difficult to read. Perhaps, I’m just getting older and can’t read about this stuff any more...or maybe, just maybe, this book crossed some lines that I am unwilling to expose myself to. King, Preppy, Bear and Rage are all a band of misfits who require loads of therapy, but I loved their colourful characters. Smoke just made me feel a little meh. I didn’t love him or hate him, and the story line was slow moving at first and then BAM, it all summed up in about 15% and it felt a little rushed in the end.
I’ve been a fan of Frazier’s previous books-and I am not going to fault her for this one. But I’m admitting this was my least favourite- which is a shame.
I didn’t enjoy some of the chemistry between Smoke and Frankie. The tension between them certainly sizzled for a bit there! Nine was a nice addition to the family as well. I’m hoping he gets his own book as well!
