Creed by Kristen Ashley

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

Creed (Unfinished Hero, #2)Creed by Kristen Ashley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This Kristen Ashley book was unique in that it paired two people (hero and heroine) who were equally alpha. It was an interesting concept that worked surprisingly well. On finishing, I'm of the opinion that there are none quite like Sylvie Bissenette. She is a petite, gun-totting, vigilante-earning, protector of woman. I admired Sylvie's stubbornness but self-awareness of when the battle was over and she needed to relent. She was full of integrity, fierce loyalty and spunk. She works in the employ of Knight, which I wasn't sure about as that is the only KA book I haven't enjoyed. Knight was a side character in the book and I warmed a little more to him. He had some excellent lines, short, staccato but poignant.

This was a book of fantastic second chances if only Sylvie would let herself. Creed was a scarred, gun-totting, vigilante/PI-earning alpha. They were one another's first love. Seeing these two fight and bicker for power and one-upmanship was highly amusing. Behind all this is a solid, engaging tale of longing and unfulfilled dreams. As with others in this Unfinished Hero series, there's a upgrade on the twisty heat that was fun to read. I've read this series out of order but it doesn't matter, they stand alone well.

Blindfolded Innocence by Alessandra Torre

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

Blindfolded Innocence (Innocence, #1)Blindfolded Innocence by Alessandra Torre
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have a soft spot for romance set in a legal backdrop but I'm not sure you can call this romance. This was transfixing in that I couldn't look away. Brad De Luca is an anti-hero; unlikeable, arrogant, a womaniser and not able to be monogamous. But...... and there's a big but, there is just something that draws you in. Julia, the heroine is likable in the main, she's something of a tease and she takes sharing a bed with a man as something that shouldn't be flippant. Julia and Brad are not a match made in heaven. In addition, he's a partner at the law firm where she is an intern.

I spent a significant part of the book thinking Brad De Luca was an a**e (I'm from the UK, perfect phrase for him). Alessandra Torre tells a wicked tale, explicitly but cleverly. It's an engaging story and I just knew it was a matter of time before I warmed to Brad. I can say by the end I had grudgingly warmed to his arrogant self and understood Julia's pull towards him. I am helpless in the need to continue reading this series.

Gerard by Kathi S. Barton

REVIEWED BY Joanne Swinney

Gerard (The Pride of the Double Deuce, #3)Gerard by Kathi S. Barton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I'm in paranormal heaven. I had seen this book and thought I'd check it out. Oh God loves me, I have found a new Author to stalk, LOL! I read this book in one sitting, I could not put it down.

This is book three in the 'Double Deuce Series', I know I never thought to look, I was just to keen to read something new but never mind after reading, I think I could still pick up book one and two. Lucky me because the characters in this story are definitely ones I want to hear more about.

Gerard is the youngest of his brothers and never thought he would mate so early until the day he couldn't take his eyes off Susie the newest worker on the ranch and another panther shifter. By God he wanted her, his panther wanted her, he was finding it unbelievably hard not to just take her without consent. She had her claws into him without even making any physical contact.

Susie Benjamin a very frightened but strong shifter has had the worst luck anyone could have in one lifetime. Sentenced to jail for a crime she didn't commit. A father that did unspeakable things to a child of his own. Susie was led to believe that what he was doing was right and the law of shifters, yeah it was his law. Evil Ernie that's what I like to call him. The man/shifter is scum and the further Susie is away from him the better.

Gerard's brother, Mason decides to make Susie work at the ranch, hoping he's not making a huge mistake but he senses her fear along with her stubbornness. She's quite possibly the most stubborn woman, he has ever come across.

Susie finds it almost impossible to trust anyone and honestly you wouldn't blame her after everything she's been through, however working at the ranch it's the happiness she's ever been. She knows she will have to move on soon, fearing if she stays that her father will not only beat her bad but also kill the people around her that have been so kind. Gerard is not about to let Susie go. He needs her and if he had to he'd chase her down and drag her back. Don't you just love a strong alpha male going all caveman.

So many unfortunate events take place at the ranch and the Douglas's home town. Theft, Arson, the list is endless but one thing is for certain, no matter what this family and close friends will always be there for each other.

I'm so looking forward to reading more books by this Author. Iv'e been in Paranormal Romance heaven reading this story for that I thank you, Kathi S Barton.

Walk of Shame by Andrea Smith

REVIEWED BY Joanne Swinney

Walk of ShameWalk of Shame by Andrea Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Right, who's done the walk of shame? Oh yeah you so have, I bet many of us have. It's part of life, growing up, learning from our mistakes, for some even repeating them, so for you guys just keep on walking. LOL!

This is another epically written book by Andrea Smith, I swear I fangirl over this Author. She just keeps me coming back for more and more and yep more. I hope there is more to come from these characters in this book because I have throughly enjoyed this story.
Have you read the 'The G-Men Series'? well in book three we meet Easton and Darcy, explosive read, anyways Weston was conceived by this dynamic couple and is the character in this book.
Welcome to Weston Matthews story. EEEK!! I'm so giddy, what an awesome read. It's fresh yet containing all the usually banter, I have come to love by this Author. I have laughed out loud, definitely had a few cringing moments and I have watched a love story become sensational, yeah I know I read a book not watched a movie but if you pick up a book by this Author, you too will play out the story with mental images and not just words.

Weston is attending college and not doing too well, he has other priorities besides studying. His father clearly not happy with the way his son's life is shaping out decides to intervene and hires him a tutor. Just what Weston wants more work, NOT!

Peyton Lang a girl many would refer to as a nerd but one hell of a sexy nerd. She has an idea and her professor decides to let her go ahead with said crazy idea.. Oh the best laid plans as they say.

Penny Lane is hired to tutor Weston, she's unattractive to the eyes but has the brains of Einstein. She has her work cut out for her. Weston is a pain that likes to make Penny's life difficult.

Peyton works at a club where Weston drinks, Weston fancies Peyton, well who wouldn't, she a cutie with curves in all the right places. Peyton knows about Weston, he's a man whore, young, free and devilishly handsome he can have whoever he wants, well except Peyton.

Penny starts to rethink her thesis because well quite frankly Weston is throwing a spanner in the works. Weston is starting to appreciate Penny and sees her as more than a tutor, she's becoming his friend.

Tragedy strikes Weston's family and he leaves to go home immediately. Weston's father tells him to return to college but he's reluctant. Peyton is wondering what happened to Weston as she hasn't seen him around. Penny is livid he's been missing classes.

Peyton's best friend, Eva persuades her to attend the halloween party. Peyton does end up going and no one knows who she is which is fine by her. She is used to being incognito.

Whilst at the party sitting at the bar she spots the saddest looking clown and decides to drink shots with him, next thing we know, she's having the hottest sex of her life but has no clue who gave her, her first big O. Well it's all an interesting turn of events.

It's like cludeo and who done it? Who's who? and when is all going to become clear? Oh it's an exciting read and I would recommend to all readers. This book is fun, sexy, intriguing, thrilling, it has a few moments of sadness. It's an all round perfect read.

I loved to read Weston's sister's story, Carson. Definitely a great story there and I know this Author will give me the unexpected.
Until next time, thank you once again for another fabulous read.

Nicolas by Dianne Hartsock

REVIEWED BY Joanne Swinney

NicolasNicolas by Dianne Hartsock
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

3.5 STARS

I received a copy for a honest review.

Anyone that knows me will know, I always give an honest review. I have struggled to put into words about this book, I have just read. There is a reason, I don't download dark reads and this book definitely cemented my opinion to NEVER, EVER read another. I love M/M but now I know I don't like dark M/M.

First off, I have to say that this Author is a great writer, that was very clear to me while reading. The story although the darkest I have ever read was written well. I base this on the fact that I was drawn into this scary story. My heart was pounding, my palms were sweaty, I put the book down thinking, I am not going to continue, it's just to much for me but I continued through some horrific images that the Author placed in my mind. That's what I found disturbing. I'm a lover of romance, yes I like twists and turns in a book but to this degree, no thanks.

Jamie is staying in a secluded cabin after breaking up with his cheating partner. He is happy enough staying there until he starts having these strange dreams but are they really dreams. Some almost could be nightmares, it's hard to know what is reality and what is in the mind. It's all very twisted.

Jamie saves a man named, Nicolas from freezing to death. It's quite possibly the worst mistake he's ever made, depending on your point of view. At one point, I was happy for them both to build a friendship, then I thought, Oh God this is not going to turn out well.

Nicolas keeps remembering things and we, the readers share these thoughts, imagines that have happened. It's not only that these events that have taken place are horrendous but, I found them sickening. I guess I just don't have the stomach for reading such unpleasant things happening to children.

Nicolas's enemy, Krampus is beyond evil. He's despicable, appalling, nauseating, yeah I didn't like him one bit.
He's the man in your dreams and nightmares but he's also reality. How? honestly, I have no clue, I'm still baffled by this enigma.

I think Jamie is torn between helping Nicolas get rid of Krampus because the fear of dying is all to real but lust plays a big part in this story. Jamie longs for passion and both Nicolas and Krampus are aware of this.

I admit that this book was not for me as I have tried to explain without giving out spoilers BUT if you like dark reads and aren't affected by what events take place in a story then this book is for you. I only recommend to readers that like weird and frightening stories and of course the M/M genre.

Sleep well readers. I know I didn't.

Oh boy! Not quite what I was expecting but yet, I think I did actually suspect but didn't want to believe it. So many twists and definitely some wonderful surprises, this book will keep you turning the pages at a hundred miles a hour.

Trey and Tyler become a family of three. I knew they would be fabulous parents. Preston is one lucky little girl. She will know what it's like to be loved and cared for, unlike the awful childhood Tyler had to endure.

Tyler is not yet free from her past, many things occur in this continuing story. Shocking events take place, it left me unsettled to say the least. Trey and Tyler have to face some frightful situations. It's quite disturbing to think the things people will do.

Trey is Tyler's rock, he's understanding, caring, loving, so passionate but also he's a man that likes to have control. He makes me smile and growl while reading, so many different sides to Trey it's hard not to fall in love with him. Tyler's best friend, Gina has an awesome nick name for him.

We read a lot more about Gina in this book, she's been a very good friend to Tyler. It's now Tyler's turn to be the supportive friend as Gina's life takes a sudden change in direction.

Remember Trey's brother, Tristan. Really who could forget that male Adonis, anyway he is becoming a regular around the family also. Like this book wasn't hot enough now I am having dreams with both Trey and Tristan. Oh so is Tyler. Oops!!

Only in this Author's books does fiction become real in my mind. The connection I feel to these characters is a huge credit to the writer. It seems this story is far from over, so I am off to read book three. I'm praying for a fairytale ending.

Release!: A Walker Brothers Novel by J.S. Scott

REVIEWED BY Joanne Swinney

Release!: A Walker Brothers Novel (The Walker Brothers Book 1)Release!: A Walker Brothers Novel by J.S. Scott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A surprise release that blew me away. Nobody knew that this Author was even writing a story of Trace Walker who many would have been introduced to in Chloe's story 'Billionaire Unbound'.

I was so intrigued by Trace and wanted to hear more, so imagine how excited I was reading a post saying 'surprise release' I downloaded and devoured with a huge smile on my face.

Trace takes over running his father's company when tragedy strikes. It's not that he never wanted the job but he thought he had many years before he took on such a huge role. He insistantly became the leader of his two brothers, Sebastian and Dane, not willing to show weakness at a time when they needed him the most. By building a wall around himself and taking control of every situation he's never allowed himself to really live, love and laugh, until the day Eva walked into his office.

Eva is a beautiful woman inside and out, considering the mother she had and the life she has had to deal with, it's a miracle her heart has remained intact, loving and very giving.
If anyone deserves a break and a chance at happiness it's Eva.

No story is ever complete without a few surprises and I was definitely surprised at the plot in this book. Let's just say certain topics are considered taboo in life but yet if you read this story, I think you will agree it's far from taboo, more it was destined to happen.

Really, who makes up the rules of life? Sometimes you just have to take a chance. Trace is not about to let Eva go so perhaps the sooner she is on the same page the better.

I have been fully fulfilled once again by this Author. Her stories take me just far enough for a thrill and beyond my wildest dreams of romance.
Thank you so much for this surprise book. As always, I am looking forward to reading more books by Author J.S.Scott.

Kiss of the Highlander by Karen Marie Moning

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

Kiss of the Highlander (Highlander, #4)Kiss of the Highlander by Karen Marie Moning
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4.5 stars

This read has been something of a journey, I started with the audio and managed about 30% but couldn't continue to listen due to the narrator's lack of authentic Scottish accent. Now I realise to Americans it probably sounds realistic, but to those who spend time alongside the accent, it won't cut it. I am sad to see the majority of the series has the same narrator. Once I got to reading the ebook, I enjoyed it much more.

I have previously read book one and some book friends assured me I could jump to Book four if I wished without losing key plot lines and characters. The story of the MacKelters was a fascinating one, with many twists and turns. I sat there with my jaw dropped and head moving back and forth. No one could ever say this story is predictable. The time travel was well written and as believable as it could be. Drustan MacKelter was a perfect highland laird, stubborn, strong and fiercely loyal. Gwen was in some ways an unlikely heroine, not immediately appealing to me, but she certainly grew on me.

There were some ebbs and flows in this book, not always a steady pace with some fast, exciting moments. I was going to give this book four stars but the last 15% blew me away. I thought the final portion of the book made for a spectacular story, ending and ensured that I will continue with the series. I devoured that last section and really didn't want it to end; such a clever conclusion. Karen Marie Moning has impressed me with her skill of character and story development, I look forward to more from her.

Forbid Me (The Good Ol' Boys, #2)Forbid Me by M. Robinson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

One of the advantages of owning a blog is that you have the pleasure of seeing all the teasers and covers circulating around FB. So it wasn't a surprise when I came across a teaser for this book. The picture was the image of a little boy holding a baby. At first I thought it was depicting a teaser for a family book, but when I read the quote I knew I had to read this and wow I was completely blown away!.

This story takes us on a journey that spans across a little over ten years between Lilly and Jacob. The story is told on both POV's and it moves back and forward in time, but this is very well delivered and it provided the reader with plenty of angst and suspense as to how the story was going to pan out.
Jacob and Lilly are the kind of star crossed lovers that were always born to be together. That no matter what life throws at them, fate will always make sure they find a way to each other. You see, Jacob is Lilly's brother Lucas best friend. Nothing wrong about that you may say, however there's the tiny itzy bitzy detail that Jacob is 7 years older than her.
Lilly has no doubt in her heart that she loves Jacob from very early on and there has always been a special connection between them. Jacob thinks his affection is due to the fact that he has known Lilly since she was a little girl, he has been part of all the important moments on Lilly's life. As both start to grow up so are their feelings and soon the lines that shouldn't be crossed start to become very blurry.

I loved this book. It was wonderfully written. I loved the story line and how the author made every chapter incredibly entertaining making it impossible for the reader to stop, urging us to keep going until we find the answers. It had drama, romance and plenty of steamy moments. It is plain and simple a total MUST READ.

but there was something special about him.

The lady he has loved forever has turned up in the UK again.
She still doesn't want anything to do with him but gives him the time of day anyway.
That's when the world turn so much quicker for them both.

Warped (Book #2 in The Manipulation Series) by Alicia Taylor and Natalie Townson

REVIEWED By Lynette Kelly

Alicia Taylor and Natalie Townson

Angst, heartbreaking moments, revenge, lies, and did I say heartbreak?

Book 2 of the trilogy and I have to say even better than book 1.  I enjoyed Damon's POV, it made the story more balanced and changed my point of view, from this I began to see that he is not what he is made out to be. I thought I was done with Damon and wanted Ella to walk away, needless to say I changed my mind.
Ella is a hormonal mess in this book, loathing one minute and loving the next, she is clearly falling for Damon and this is conflicting her emotions with her sisters death.  Ella is fighting her emotions throughout this book and I felt frustrated and sorry for her.
The authors have done a fantastic job in creating these characters, Leona is a wicked and deranged but added a thrilling element to the story.
Warped is an emotional read in parts and I did shed a tear or two.  I couldn't stop reading this book and the lack of sleep was worth it, the book had a great ending with more  suspense that will have you itching for the next book, I cannot wait to find out more.

Wicked Reunion (Wicked White, #2)Wicked Reunion by Michelle A. Valentine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 stars

Having not read Book one, I was concerned if I'd be able to pick up the connections. This book stands alone well; I didn't feel like I was missing anything. This book starts strongly with the established relationship between Jared and London. These two were a typical college, slightly immature and besotted couple. They are in love and planning a future. Other family members are key in this story, especially Wes, Jared's brother.

The book narrates a 5/6 year time frame in alternating pov. I enjoyed their different stories but sometimes the alternating past/present voice was frustrating, mainly because I just wanted to hear more about what was going on in that chapter. Present Jared was not particularly likable for a lot of the time, he hadn't matured but I did understand some of his behaviour. London of the present was an emotional mess. Ultimately it was a solid read.

KylandKyland by Mia Sheridan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4.5 stars

This was totally engaging. I've been meaning to read Kyland but I'm one of these people that is often put off by hype, so I like to wait for it to die down. Kyland lived up to the hype I've heard. The backdrop to this story was excellent, Appalachian mountain folk as poor as you can imagine. What I loved about this is that Mia Sheridan doesn't conveniently make people rich or comfortable to mitigate reader's sensitivities. Kyland and Tenley are richer characters for being poor, appreciative of having warmth, food and on occasion, love.

These characters who had so little were also poor in terms of their family's love at times and their shared desire to study their way out of the town brought them to a grudging friendship. Tenley introduced Kyland to classic literature and I absolutely loved the importance of Jane Austen's Persuasion in this book, there were points that it gave me the chills it was so poignant.

I listened to Kyland on audio and if I have one criticism it's that the male narrator made Kyland a little over emotional and whiney at times. This is male narrator I have liked in other books, so I would just say it's this particular interpretation. However, this did not spoil the listen, I could move past those parts without problem. This was without doubt another Mia Sheridan triumph!

WOW WOW WOW

This is a fantastic Story, it also shows Author J.S. Scott ability to be within the trends, Yes its a step-bro Novel of sorts but it is also so much more. A wonderful fairytale and another great read from the Queen of ROMANCE.

When most of your life has been a struggle you find it impossibly hard to believe someone would care about you. When all the doors have been closed and people who were meant to protect you have done nothing but expose you to a life of misery and danger what do you do? Who do you turn to? Eva is strong, beautiful and a total survivor, she has had her share of bad situations, so when an opportunity arises and she reaches for it grabbing with all she has, last she expected was to be propositioned by a charming and utterly hot Alpha Billionaire.

Shiloh by G.J. Walker Smith

REVIEWED BY Becky Cox

Shiloh (Wishes, #6)Shiloh by G.J. Walker-Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

There are many levels of writing and in my opinion G.J. Walker-Smith's is extraordinary! I don't know how she does it but it is addictive and sets the bar in my mind for other books.

This is the 6th book in the Wishes Series but could be read as a standalone; although I would highly recommend reading the entire series.

Mitchell you meet briefly in the first book, Saving Wishes and then several more times throughout the series. I wanted more Mitchell and was extremely excited to hear that G.J. was giving him his own story.

Mitchell helped Charli through some difficult times and was a great friend to her during times she needed to escape. She returned to New York and Adam but Mitchell stayed in Kaimte living his life on the beach in his shack. He has been there about 7 years when he unexpectedly meets Shiloh.

Shiloh, a fellow Australian, arrives in Kaimte with a mission that didn't include Mitchell. But fate and magic have a way of intervening.
It wouldn't be a Walker-Smith book without a bit of magic; and I don't mean the hocus pocus kind, I mean the universe kind.

Shiloh is a bit different than the other Wishes books but is brilliant nonetheless. When you read any of her books you feel like you know the characters as real people and are invested in their story. All of Walker-Smith's male characters are all wonderful and handsome but each have their own flaw. Be it arrogance, self-centered or naive. Her leading female characters are strong and witty.

I don't know what the difference is because I am no author, but there is something about G.J.'s books that reach inside me and take hold. The plot timelines are realistic and never rushed. I am a sucker for the Australian accent and their terminology has given me a giggle more than once.

If your looking for suspense, angst, romance, a laugh and brilliant writing this is the book for you.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

Shiloh by G.J. Walker-Smith

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

Shiloh (Wishes, #6)Shiloh by G.J. Walker-Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

GJ Walker-Smith is a favourite contemporary author of mine and her latest book Shiloh is a bit of a departure from the Wishes series style. It's characters are more mature, the plot has suspense, it's a tad hotter than her previous books but it keeps all the elements that I rely on in a Walker-Smith book. The humour is en pointe, the writing flows beautifully and the characters have depth. I didn't just like it, I loved it.

Remember Mitchell, Charli's surfing buddy? Yeah, he's still catching waves and living in one of the beach huts in Africa. He has matured though. Fate throws Shiloh and Mitchell, these two Aussies together in Kiamte but the nature of Shiloh's work means she's living a lie. As their friendship grows, the lies become walls.

This book has vivid description that paints the scenes perfectly, many 'snicker' moments, but the things I love most about GJ Walker-Smith's writing are the poignant, punch-packing lines. I drew in breath over quite a number of them, reveled in the 'feels' and whilst it made me laugh numerous times, it also gave me heart ache.

"At that point I was only certain of one thing: I was going to get my heart broken, and because I could see it coming, it was my fault, not hers."

This book filled a missing bit that I've wanted ever since Mitchell was introduced in Saving Wishes and more so in Second Hearts. He's a wonderful main character and he stands equally alongside these great men that GJ writes. I know that Mitchell is physically attractive but its his soul I'm magnetised to. Shiloh is a strong, interesting woman, courageous but with hidden vulnerabilities that make her so believable. I want to be 'kick-arse' like Shiloh one day too.

This book can be read as a stand alone. There are a small number of references to past wishes series characters, however, if you've not read them, it won't leave you mystified.

This was a superb read and it reminds me that good quality literature isn't everyday, this one sparkles like the diamonds discussed within it's pages.

A copy of this book was provided by the author.

Reckless Abandon by Jeannine Colette

REVIEWED BY Becky Cox

Reckless AbandonReckless Abandon by Jeannine Colette
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Reckless Abandon is the second book in this series, following Pure Abandon which I believe is the authors debut novel. I have not read Pure Abandon yet, but had no trouble enjoying Reckless Abandon as a standalone.

Emma and her sister are in Capri, Italy, on what should have been her sister's honeymoon but for the tragic accident that changed their lives. While in Capri Emma meets the magnanimous Asher. They spend some time together then he is gone as a result of some misunderstandings.

A while later they reconnect in New York and the story continues...

Asher is hot alpha male, but has a sweet romantic side and has a past that has left him scarred.

Emma has been through a tragic accident and it altered the course of her life. She fell quick and hard for Asher in Capri and doesn't see herself giving him another chance.

"You think you're broken but maybe it's me who needs to be saved"

Wonderfully written story about two damaged people not only healing themselves but each other. I read it as a standalone fine, but if Pure Abandon is as good as Reckless Abandon, and I hear that it is, I would recommend reading it first.

I was gifted a copy for an honest review.

53 Letters For My Lover by Leylah Attar

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

53 Letters for My Lover (53 Letters for My Lover, #1)53 Letters for My Lover by Leylah Attar
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is one of the most poignant reads I've had this year and if I could give it 6 stars, I would. This book is unique in the merging of the Persian and Canadian cultures and it is told over a 20 year time span, right up to contemporary times. I know little about Persian culture but I enjoyed and learnt from the snapshots afforded throughout the book. Shayda is Persian, beautiful, exotic but expected to marry once her family ensured her passage to Canada. Hafez is her husband but there were secrets she wasn't ever told. This first 30% of the book gripped me with its grim reality and the feelings it evoked in me. Troy is Canadian and someone who pops up in Shayda's life.

Troy and Shayda, all drawn to one another. When they were together, it was like magic, incomparable to your average love story, but when they were apart, it was achingly painful. These two had me in knots, thinking obsessively about the book and I almost couldn't bear to continue.

"You're dangerous. And you leave bruises. And your words disrobe me, and your kisses destroy me."

I needed some hand holding to progress, but I am so glad I continued. What these two go through in their lives is gritty, difficult but quite wonderful.

"I lift the bed sheet over our heads, letting the light filter through the soft cotton, while we hold hands in our private little fort."

I couldn't ever predict what was round the corner for these two, their families and where the journey would end. I am captivated by the story that Leylah Attar created. Her writing is seamless, exotic and conjures every scene so perfectly in your mind. I cried after closing the book, not during the book. The emotions evoked by this read leave me in admiration of this experience and the characters.

The Ground Rules Rewritten by Roya Carmen

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

The Ground Rules Rewritten (The Rule Breakers, #2)The Ground Rules Rewritten by Roya Carmen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I thoroughly enjoyed this second installment in the series. I was puzzled as to where this would go in terms of storyline after book one, but I found that I once again enjoyed the ride of Gabe and Mirella, Weston and Bridget. Gabe was a stronger presence in this book and I enjoyed getting a deeper understanding of his and Mirella's relationship. I also felt like I had more insight as to how and why they could all tolerate these arrangements that many would find unacceptable. Bridget remains a side character of limited consequence. This book caused my kindle to steam at various moments, those parts were well written.

By the end of the book, I am unsure what I think about these four and in particular I find that I am less and less a fan of Mirella. She was a total flake at times but had moments of integrity. Gabe also puzzled me and Weston seemed to have done a 180 in his feelings. All in all this book invokes strong feelings, whether it's passion, morality or values, this book has it all. I will definitely be devouring book three when it arrives.

Oblivion by Jennifer L. Armentrout

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

Oblivion (Lux, #1.5)Oblivion by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really didn't know what to expect from Oblivion. The Lux Series has been a long standing favorite of mine but alternate pov can sometimes be disappointing. This wasn't. Yes, I know these stories inside out but this had so much detail regarding everything I've ever wanted to know about Daemon Black and his thoughts.

Katy is the driving force that makes Daemon mature into a man to be reckoned with. Although, it is amusing to see Daemon's early adulthood teenage desires for Katy. He's typical in his thought patterns! Katy through Daemon's eyes is more. More everything. This book fills in many a detail you didn't think you need to know but now I have a much fuller story and insight into the characters. I truly appreciated the move from Obsidian thriving to Opal.

A very welcome addition to the series.

The publisher provided a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Pretty Hot by Donna Alam

REVIEWED BY Becky Cox

Pretty Hot (Pretty, #1)Pretty Hot by Donna Alam
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Katie flees her Australian home in the wake of a bad breakup. Having a friend in Dubai makes it an easy choice for her to get a job teaching and relocate there. Katie's friend Niamh, who is Irish, is hilarious and just what Katie needs to recover from her heartbreak.

Kai is from an affluent traditional Arab family. He is gorgeous, smart and wealthy. Everything Katie's new friends tell her to stay away from. Well, we all know how that works out.

I truly enjoyed this read. Katie's inner dialogue is entertaining. She and Niamh's conversations made me laugh out loud. Katie and Kai are just plain hot together, guess that is where the title came from.

The writing is well done and easily draws you into the story. I liked the location as it is new for me and I like learning about new places. This is the first in a trilogy and ends in a bit of a cliffy. All three books are out so no worries on having to wait.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed how this story unfolded. I love that they start out as friends in the military. Both Trisha and Brett have PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) from there last mission and are happy to be home safe. The fun begins when Brett thinks his twin brother orchestrated a fake engagement to Trisha. He plays along with it to see how far it will go. The joke is on him. He now has to decide to continue the charade of the fake engagement or to come clean about it.

I enjoyed this story. It was a fun to watch this story unfold and to see how their friendship develops throughout this story. I loved how they had each other's back and which gives them both hope for the future.

I look forward to reading more from this author.

My Everything by Katie Marsh

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

My EverythingMy Everything by Katie Marsh
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I've returned a bit to women's fiction this year and this book reminds me why this is a good idea. This book tackles real life but with a poignancy that it is impossible not to get emotionally involved with the characters. This is a story of a mid -thirties married couple who've forgotten why they're together and what was worth getting married for. They're lost and then tragedy strikes. This book was emotionally provoking from the beginning, in particular, it was easy to feel empathy towards Hannah the heroine. On the flip side, I had sympathy for Tom because of his predicament but he had not been a good husband of late.

As the book progresses, the true tale of these two unravels in a timeline of past and present. Lies and truth are told, work invades and freedom beckons. I was constantly eager to get to the present and see where Hannah and Tom were up to. Julie, Tom's sister is a pretty important character but she conjured such irritation in me, although I think that was expected.

This book was fantastic debut from Katie Marsh, well researched and she was willing to narrate life in it's gritty ugliness, yet finding chinks of light. I found it ultimately fulfilling but emotionally provoking. I would love to read more about Tom and Hannah and Katie Marsh.

Marked by Charisse Spiers

REVIEWED BY Isa Jones

Marked (Shadows in the Dark #1)Marked by Charisse Spiers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book I've read from Charisse and I loved it.

What is funny is that in Fight I thought I had read it all and don't get me wrong the story was incredibly powerful. However in Marked we are not presented with one Alpha but two. Before you think this is a ménage of sorts no don't go there at all. I've read numerous stories with powerful characters but this story has two. Both the heroine Lux and the male lead Kaston can make grown men cry!!

These two had rough childhoods but were Kaston in some way had a redeemable youth and as much normalcy as possible, Lux has been living throughout most of her life in a cloud of nothingness. She's learnt to be strong and be a fighter regardless of what life has thrown at her. So when the universe decides to play hooky and align the stars for these characters to meet, sparks fly out of the pages instantly. Who would have thought getting a tattoo was going to be such an erotic experience! Do I have your attention yet??

Marked is a powerful and very dark story of survival, of finding love in the most unlikely circumstances and of life offering second chances. It's a cathartic tale of seeking justice and trying to make a world a better place.

For some Kaston can be a vigilante, for others he can be a ruthless and soulless individual, but for me he was a Hero. For some Lux was a victim, a forgotten and lost woman, but for me she was a survivor, she's a total badass chick!

I admire the author for writing such a poignant story, with so much content and so many twists and emotional moments because it's no easy task to deliver such a flawed result. The story is complex yet you are lost and totally submerged within and with the characters.

I am moving on to my next read from this series because quite simply, I just can't get enough. BRAVO

The Queen by Tiffany Reisz

REVIEWED BY Becky Cox

The Queen (The Original Sinners: White Years, #4)The Queen by Tiffany Reisz
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have read everything Tiffany has written about Nora, Soren and Kingsley. I put this one off for a bit because it was the last one and I wasn't ready to let them go.

I have re-read the Original Sinners series a few times and I am sure I will again. The Queen was just as soul changing and spectacularly naughty as the others.

Tiffany Reisz is the master of all things naughty, but there is so much more behind the naughty that if you pay attention, will change you. I have a deep affection for Nora, Soren and Kingsley. I feel like they are friends now and I will miss them.

Griffin is always around for a good romp in the hay and a laugh. He has been a steady and faithful friend to Nora. A few other characters make an appearance that were good to hear from. Don't want to give away too much.

I don't have the words to express my love for these characters and want to thank Tiffany for sharing them with me.

“I didn’t leave you to hurt you,” she whispered.
“But it did.”
“I spent seven years on the receiving end of pain. I’m ready to be on the giving end.”
“Did you have to start with me?”

“If I came back to you, you would take from me. You would take Nora from me, and I just found her. I’m not giving me up for you. I can’t sacrifice so much of myself that there’s nothing left to give back to you.”

With Every Breath by Niecey Roy

REVIEWED BY Becky Cox

With Every Breath (River Bend, #1)With Every Breath by Niecey Roy
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Jaden and Cole were young and in love until Cole broke her heart. Jaden left the small town they grew up in and sought her dream career. She achieved her goals and was living the life she always wanted, albeit alone.

Cole married out of obligation and it was a mistake he was finally correcting. Loveless or not, he gave it his all because he is just that kind of guy. On the verge of his divorce, Jaden comes back to town to check on her best friend Mia. Them running into each other was inevitable.

Love Cole and Jaden. Jaden is strong and sassy, but clumsy and funny as well. Cole is all male country boy and oh so hot.

All their friends are so entertaining and I see some fun stories coming out of those relationships.

Niecey did a great job with this second chance romance that steamed up my kindle.

Walk Through Fire by Kristen Ashley

REVIEWED BY Becky Cox

Walk Through Fire (Chaos, #4)Walk Through Fire by Kristen Ashley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love all things MC. Walk Through Fire is an MC book and so much more. It is a second chance love story. It is a story of self sacrifice.

High and Millie were crazy in love in their 20's, until Millie abruptly kicked High out of her life. Twenty years later they meet again and discover what life handed each of them over the last twenty years.

High, a member of Chaos MC, has been in out of trouble and never really recovered from Millie leaving him. He is just out of a marriage of obligation.

Millie has everything outwardly that any woman could want but love. She is successful, has great friends, a nice house and car.

Kristen Ashley's captures the MC, age of the characters and all the "feels" they would be going through spectacularly. I was drawn in and couldn't stop reading. Truly enjoyed this book so much that I went and bought the rest of the series.

Great read for lovers of all things MC.

Burnout by Brooklyn Taylor

REVIEWED BY Becky Cox

BurnoutBurnout by Brooklyn Taylor
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Easton Hunter is at the top of his field in drag racing. He is self-assured and cocky. Easton has no problem with the ladies with his good looks, although he has no room for a relationship between his racing career and his family, especially his niece Sammy that he calls Blue.

Harper Dunn is a female racer. She is strong and confident. I like strong female characters and Harper definitely fits the bill. Harper has an insta-love...with Sammy. She immediately falls in love with the little girl. Sammy is a cute and fun little girl.

Burnout dealt with some heartbreaking tragedy but was overall a light read. There was a bit of angst but not too much.

Easton and Harper burn up the pages as well as the track. I don't anything about racing but easily related to the story.

Tell Me SomethingTell Me Something by Aubrey Bondurant
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I think the story was written really well. I was pulled into the story and couldn't put it down. I like how independent Haylee is and how adamant she is about going to school. Her personality was very relate-able. I loved the scenes with her in Hong Kong. It was a super funny scenario. Haylee and Josh's Tell Me Something game was also really cute. I think it's awesome how her side hobby opportunity came about. It's nice to picture a normal girl being able to do that. I enjoyed how the story brought the girl click together between Haylee, Sasha, and Catherine. The other characters were great as well. Brian's character is flirty and awesome. I liked how much fun he brought to the story; including his purposeful attempts to make Josh jealous. There are plenty of good attributes to this book. Read it!

Shiloh by G.J. Walker-Smith

REVIEWED BY Melinda Lazar

Shiloh (Wishes, #6)Shiloh by G.J. Walker-Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Shiloh by GJ Walker-Smith

I have been on tenterhooks waiting for this latest release from GJ Walker-Smith and Shiloh does not disappoint.

This book has EVERYTHING you could possibly want from a story, from characters, from an author.

Shiloh, a small-town girl, is looking for some excitement and adventure and she gets that in spades when she heads to Kaimte, Africa. Enter Mitchell. Laid-back publican who is just happy to surf and let life cruise along.

From the moment these two met, I could feel the chemistry between them and I couldn't stand to put the book down - I had to know what was happening! There were so many times that I couldn't hold my bursts of laughter in, and these moments were perfectly balanced by the elements of suspense. Add in the swoony moments that made me fall in love with Mitchell and this book is the complete package.

I read so many books a week and while I know I love an author's writing style and they're an automatic one-click for me, I do tend to forget the minute details until a new book comes out. Having read Shiloh, I am reminded of why I am in absolute awe of the beautiful words and artistry that make me fall in love with Walker-Smith's works.

While Shiloh is Book 6 of the Wishes series, it can be read as a standalone. However, it truly is a beautiful series that you should consider reading. Unequivocally recommend this book and the whole Wishes series.

Lawless by T.M. Frazier

REVIEWED BY Melinda Lazar

Lawless (King, #3)Lawless by T.M. Frazier
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lawless by TM Frazier

I have just finished this book and all I can think is: WHAT THE EFF?! The evil ginger strikes again.

I usually avoid a book when I KNOW it'll end in a cliffy (at least until all books are out), but with Frazier, it's like I'm a glutton for punishment. This book ends with the mother of all cliffhangers and it is oh so worth it!

Bear and Thia are interesting, complex characters that you just can't wait to delve into and learn all there is about them. The chemistry between them is intense and explosive. Between these characters and Frazier's delivery, we're left with a story that's just brilliant.

Let the record show that Frazier does not do pretty, she does not do rainbows, she does not do flowers. What she DOES do is deliver a captivating and gripping story that has you on the edge of your seat, from the very first page, till the very last page, and oftentimes leaves you screaming obscenities and plotting murder (hers).

This book is Bear and Thia's story and is classified as King (Book 3) so you should really read King and Tyrant before starting Lawless. Neither books will disappoint.

For Cam by Soraya Naomi

REVIEWED BY Melinda Lazar

For Cam (Chicago Syndicate, #4)For Cam by Soraya Naomi
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

For Cam by Soraya Naomi

Here's another great addition to the Chicago Syndicate series. In For Cam we continue with the relationship between Camilla and my boyfriend, Adriano. We deal with the trials they face as a couple, and as the head of the Mafia and his Capo.

For me the story started a little stilted but it definitely improved and had me caught up in the drama. And while some of the ideas were far fetched, they still added good value to the book overall.

I liked watching Adriano come into his own as the Capo Crimini - a role that suits him to a T. I also liked that Camilla was fiery enough to stand up for herself.

Overall, this was a good read and I'm looking forward to the next book. This must be read after For Adriano, but previous books are not required to be read (although I do recommend you do so).

For Cam by Soraya Naomi

REVIEWED BY Becky Cox

For Cam (Chicago Syndicate, #4)For Cam by Soraya Naomi
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

For Cam is the 4th in the Chicago Syndicate series. We met her in For Adriano. You need to read these in order to be able to understand and enjoy the developing stories.

For Cam is fast paced. There are several problems needing to be resolved and Adriano is struggling to balance his time taking care of the problems and his relationship with Cam. Cam is struggling with the lack of time with Adriano and her need to prove her strength at a Capo and to be respected as such.

When an old "friend" of Adriano's makes an appearance it just throws fuel on the fire.

Adriano is hot as ever and there are times I would like to trade places with Cam.
When tragedy strikes Adriano's love for Cam shines through.

"I'm a selfish man at heart. And she'll always own mine, like I own hers."

With some exciting twist, Soraya keeps the pages turning.

I would recommend for readers who love mafia romance, alpha males, strong females and a fast paced drama. You can't be offended by a bit of hot sex and some graphic violence.

I received an ARC for an honest review.
